For this the channel path identifier 00 to 0F are reserved, that are spent as BUS in SM2. The real, physical Fibre Channels can be different from the channels, that are visible for the BS2000/OSD operatig system (and for SM2). So the SM2 channel specific measurement values does not have a force of expression. 1.2 PFA (addition to page 47, Volume 1) The monitoring program PFA only collects monitored data of TYP S connected SYMMETRIX systems (not TYP FC, Fibre Channel). PFA is replaced by the new monitoring program STORAGE-SYSTEM. With SM2 V14.0B the monitoring program PFA is only for those users relevant, that have no SHC-OSD or SHC-OSD < 4.0A in use. Those users cannot use STORAGE-SYSTEM. Further the in SM2 V14.0A described data are supplied and in the operation nothing changes. Likewise only data for SYMMETRIX systems are supplied, which are TYP S connected. The monitoring program PFA collects wrong or no data, if SHC-OSD >= 4.0A is used und should not be used with SHC-OSD >= 4.0A. A Page 2 1.3 STORAGE-SYSTEM (new section, Volume 1) The new measurement program STORAGE-SYSTEM only collects data, if SHC-OSD >= V4.0A is in use. The measurement data are supplied for any connection type. The changes in the handling of SM2 are stated below. Note: You need microcode 5x66 or higher on your SYMMETRIX systems. Conclusion SM2 allows to start both measurement programs PFA and STORAGE-SYSTEM at the same time, but this makes no sense for the user. There is an overview in the following table: | PFA | STORAGE-SYSTEM ----------------------+------------------------+--------------------- no SHC-OSD or | like SM2 V14.0A | No data can be SHC-OSD < V4.0A | (Only SYMMETRIX systems| supplied. in use | with TYP S connection | | are provided.) | ----------------------+------------------------+--------------------- SHC-OSD >= V4.0A | Data can be incomplete.| Data can be in use | The measurement program| supplied. | should not be used. | A Page 3 2 SM2 operation 2.1 Statements for SM2 administrators 2.1.1 CHANGE-MEASUREMENT-PROGRAM (addition to page 85, Volume 1) The monitoring program STORAGE-SYSTEM has been added to the operand TYPE of the SM2 statement //CHANGE-MEASUREMENT-PROGRAM. +------------------------------------------------------------------+ | CHANGE-MEASUREMENT-PROGRAM | +------------------------------------------------------------------+ | | | TYPE = ... / *STORAGE-SYSTEM | | | +------------------------------------------------------------------+ Operand description TYPE = *STORAGE-SYSTEM The monitoring program STORAGE-SYSTEM is restarted with modified monitoring parameters. 2.1.2 SET-STORAGE-SYSTEM-PARAMETERS (new section, Volume 1) The statement specifies the monitoring parameters for the monitoring program STORAGE-SYSTEM. It defines the scope of additional measured data for the storage systems. +------------------------------------------------------------------+ | SET-STORAGE-SYSTEM-PARAMETERS | +------------------------------------------------------------------+ | ADDITIONAL-DATA = *NONE / *ALL / *SYMMETRIX (...) | | ----- | | *SYMMETRIX (...) | | | | TYPE = *NONE / *ALL / list-poss(3): | | *DEVICE (...) / | | *PHYSICAL-DISK / | | *DIRECTOR | | | | *DEVICE (...) | | | | DEVICES = *ALL / *DEVICES-WITH-MN | | ---------------- | | ,BACK-END-DATA = *YES / *NO | | --- | +------------------------------------------------------------------+ A Page 4 Operand description ADDITIONAL-DATA = Defines the scope of measured data in addition to the global measured data. The global measured data are the data of the storage system as a whole (see SYMMETRIX-Report). ADDITIONAL-DATA = *NONE Only the global data are supplied (currently data of SYMMETRIX-Report). ADDITIONAL-DATA = *ALL Beside the global data for SYMMETRIX systems there are data for devices (logical volumes), physical disks in the SYMMETRIX system and directors. ADDITIONAL-DATA = *SYMMETRIX (...) Defines the additional data for SYMMETRIX systems. TYPE = *NONE Only the global data for SYMMETRIX systems are supplied (see SYMMETRIX-Report). TYPE = *ALL Beside the global data for SYMMETRIX systems there are data for devices (logical volumes), physical disks in the SYMMETRIX system and directors. TYPE = *DEVICE (...) Defines the amount of devices (logical volumes) and the additional data that are supplied. DEVICES = Defines the amount of devices (logical volumes) for the measurement. DEVICES = *ALL All devices (logical volumes) are supplied. DEVICES = *DEVICES-WITH-MN Only devices (logical volumes) with a known (BS2000)Mnemonic are supplied. The knowledge of the BS2000 Mnemonic depends of the connection: - TYP S At least one device (logical volume) of maximal 256 devices must be attached to the control unit, than all BS2000 Mnemonics of this control unit are visible. - TYP FC (Fibre Channel) The BS2000 Mnemonics of all attached devices (logical volume) are visible. A Page 5 BACK-END-DATA = Defines wether for the above selected devices (logical volume) the back end data are provided. The back end data are the IOs between the cache and the physical disks in the SYMMETRIX system per device (logical volume). BACK-END-DATA = *YES The back end data are supplied. BACK-END-DATA = * NO The back end data are not supplied. TYPE = *PHYSICAL-DISK Beside the global data for SYMMETRIX systems there are data for the physical disks in the SYMMETRIX systems supplied. TYPE = *DIRECTOR Beside the global data for SYMMETRIX systems there are data for the directors in the SYMMETRIX systems supplied. 2.1.3 START-MEASUREMENT-PROGRAM (addition to page 156, Volume 1) The TYPE operand has been extended to include the monitoring program STORAGE-SYSTEM. +------------------------------------------------------------------+ | START-MEASUREMENT-PROGRAM | +------------------------------------------------------------------+ | | | TYPE = ... / *STORAGE-SYSTEM | | | +------------------------------------------------------------------+ Operand description TYPE = *STORAGE-SYSTEM The monitoring program STORAGE-SYSTEM is started. 2.1.4 STOP-MEASUREMENT-PROGRAM (addition to page 159, Volume 1) The TYPE operand of the SM2 statement //STOP-MEASUREMENT-PROGRAM has been extended to include the monitoring program STORAGE-SYSTEM. +------------------------------------------------------------------+ | STOP-MEASUREMENT-PROGRAM | +------------------------------------------------------------------+ | | | TYPE = ... / *STORAGE-SYSTEM | | | +------------------------------------------------------------------+ Operand description TYPE = *STORAGE-SYSTEM The monitoring program STORAGE-SYSTEM is stopped. A Page 6 2.2 Statements for the nonprivileged user 2.2.1 SELECT-SYMMETRIX-UNIT (new section, Volume 1) This statement is used to select up to 16 SYMMETRIX systems to be displayed in the SYMMETRIX report. For each selected SYMMETRIX system, a SYMMETRIX PUBSET report is then output containing monitored data on the individual pubsets supported by the system. The statement can become effective only if the monitoring program STORAGE-SYSTEM is started. +------------------------------------------------------------------+ | SELECT-SYMMETRIX-UNIT | +------------------------------------------------------------------+ | | number | | SERIAL-NUMBER = | (number1[,number2]...) | | | *NONE | | | ----- | | | *ALL | | | +------------------------------------------------------------------+ Operands SERIAL-NUMBER Specifies the SYMMETRIX systems for which SYMMETRIX PUBSET reports are to be output. = number Specifies the SYMMETRIX systems for which SYMMETRIX PUBSET reports are to be output by means of the serial number of the SYMMETRIX system. The serial number can be entered in the length 1 to 12 (must be unambiguousness). = *NONE The SYMMETRIX PUBSET report is not to be output. = *ALL SYMMETRIX PUBSET reports are to be output for all SYMMETRIX systems A Page 7 3 SM2 screen output 3.1 CHANNEL report (addition to page 236, Volume 1) 3.1.1 S systems For Fibre Channel the correct type (TYP FC) is spent. For TYP FC the following restrictions apply: - A value for BUSY(%) can be spent only if the channel is monitored with the monitoring program CHANNEL-IO. - There are no values for N-OVER(%). - When using VM2000, please note that BUSY(%) indicate the load of the individual guest system (in difference to other channel types) 3.1.2 SPARC systems The operating of Fibre Channel periphery with BS2000/OSD is done by emulation of devices in X2000 as bus periphery. For this the channel path identifier 00 to 0F are reserved, that are spent as BUS in SM2. The following restrictions are to be considered: - The real, physical Fibre Channels can be different from the channels, that are visible for the BS2000/OSD operatig system (and for SM2). So the SM2 channel specific measurement values does not have a force of expression. - There are no values for BUSY(%). 3.2 SYMMETRIX reports (addition to page 306, Volume 1) Subject to the SHC-OSD version the measuement values are gathered with the measurement program PFA (< SHC-OSD V4.0A or no SHC-OSD) or STORAGE-SYSTEM (>= SHC-OSD V4.0A). The SYMMETRIX reports are output in a new layout (see chapter 'SYMMETRIX reports with measurement program STORAGE-SYSTEM'), if there are valid data of the measurement program STORAGE-SYSTEM, else the data of the measurement program PFA are output in the old layout. 3.2.1 SYMMETRIX reports with measurement program PFA There are no changes. A Page 8 3.2.2 SYMMETRIX reports with measurement program STORAGE-SYSTEM SM2 collects monitored data on the use of SYMMETRIX systems. - The SYMMETRIX report provides summary data on all SYMMETRIX systems. - The SYMMETRIX PUBSET report provides monitored data on the pubsets of selected SYMMETRIX systems. - The SYMMETRIX DEVICE report provides monitored data on the devices of selected pubsets on SYMMETRIX systems. The acquisition of monitored data is controlled by the STORAGE-SYSTEM monitoring program. Unlike other SM2 monitoring programs, the information recorded on SYMMETRIX systems is not host-specific, rather refers globally to one SYMMETRIX system. This must be taken into account particularly when interpreting the data. The figure below illustrates the hierarchy of reports and the statement used to request them: +------------------+ | SYMMETRIX-Report | +------------------+ | | SELECT-SYMMETRIX-INIT V +-------------------------+ | SYMMETRIX PUBSET-Report | +-------------------------+ | | SELECT-SYMMETRIX-PUBSET V +-------------------------+ | SYMMETRIX DEVICE-Report | +-------------------------+ Every SM2 user can use the SELECT-SYMMETRIX-UNIT statement to select SYMMETRIX systems for which a SYMMETRIX PUBSET report is then output. Only SYMMETRIX systems displayed in the SYMMETRIX report can be selected. Every SM2 user can use the SELECT-SYMMETRIX-PUBSET statement to select pubsets for which a SYMMETRIX DEVICE report is then output. Only pubsets that are displayed in the SYMMETRIX PUBSET report can be selected. It is also possible to request SYMMETRIX DEVICE reports for the devices are not assigned to a pubset. A Page 9 3.2.2.1 SYMMETRIX report The SYMMETRIX report provides an overview of the I/O activity and the cache utilization of SYMMETRIX systems. Report output The REPORT SYMMETRIX statement is used to request the output of the SYMMETRIX report. The report can only be output if the SM2 administrator has activated the monitoring program using the statement START-MEASUREMENT-PROGRAM TYPE=*STORAGE-SYSTEM. Overflow screens may be requested for this report. The monitored data output is sorted under the categories READ and WRITE. +-------------------------------------------------------------------+ |D016ZE04 SM2 SYMMETRIX CYCLE: 150 S 02-09-13 13:18:38 | | | | SERIAL-NO !A!SIZE ! It is spent per pubset. Report output The SYMMETRIX DEVICE report is output only at the explicit request of the SM2 user with the help of the SELECT-SYMMETRIX-PUBSET statement. This statement is used to output a SYMMETRIX report together with a SYMMETRIX DEVICE report for the selected pubsets. If the SYMMETRIX PUBSET report has been requested in addition, this is output after the SYMMETRIX report but before the SYMMETRIX DEVICE report. A separate screen is output for each pubset selected. The report provides monitored data for the devices of the selected pubset. The report can only be output if the SM2 administrator starts monitoring with the statement START-MEASUREMENT-PROGRAM TYPE=*STORAGE-SYSTEM. Overflow screens may be requested for this report.
